Lord Robert Skidelsky

Lord Skidelsky is a British economic historian, prizewinning author and Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick. He is a Cross-bench Life Peer and has sat under this title in the Lords since 1991.

A founding member of the Social Democratic Party, he later became a Conservative and between 1997 and 1999 served as opposition spokesman in the Lords, first for Culture, then on the Treasury. He was Chair of the Social Market Foundation (1991 to 2001), and since 2016 has served as a director and trustee of the School of Civic Education.

Lord Skidelsky was born in Harbin, China, where his father worked for the family’s firm, L. S. Skidelsky.
